The only thing I love more than a party is a themed party — and this one was so fun. For my sister Arielle's 36th birthday, we threw her a butter-themed party. Arielle loves butter, and we had so much fun running with that, starting with the banner: CHURNING 36 AND BUTTER THAN EVER.
decor
Obviously, I went with a light butter yellow color scheme with pops of blue throughout. I designed a custom banner made to look like a stick of butter and had it printed at smartpress.com — it came out at 36x24" and was the perfect size. The tablescape stayed pretty simple: I found the cutest scalloped yellow plates and light blue napkins to pair with the gold silverware I use for most of my parties. I also made name cards shaped like little butter sticks to tie it all together. The centerpiece was a big floral arrangement overflowing with white, yellow, and blue flowers. And of course, there was a second little banner hanging by the drink table that read: "life is butter with you."
food
We had a lot of fun with the menu. We made three different infused and flavored butters, displayed beautifully on wooden boards alongside a variety of sourdough breads from a local bakery. We also did a butter lettuce salad and freshly popped buttered popcorn — both so good and so on-theme. For the main course, we got taquitos from Arielle's favorite Mexican restaurant. Not exactly butter-themed, but delicious — and I found the cutest blue gingham food trays to serve them. If you want to keep everything on theme, some fun main course options would be butter chicken, brown butter sage pasta, steak with garlic compound butter, or a loaded baked potato bar. For dessert, my mom made a stunning heart-shaped cake with yellow buttercream frosting.
outfits
We all wore yellow or blue, and since it was a surprise party, we had a yellow dress waiting for Arielle so she could be on-theme too! Here are some really cute yellow outfit ideas I found!
