DIY Shoe Charms for Back to School
Want to give your shoes a little extra personality? DIY charms are such a fun (and easy) way to do it. They’re super customizable—whether you’re into something colorful, chic, or totally quirky—and all you really need are a few basic craft supplies!
Plus, this is a great craft for all ages! I made some with my three-year-old niece, and she had the best time picking out her own charms. In this post, I’ll link all the tools and supplies I used, plus share a few key tips for success.
P.S. if you’d rather buy than DIY, I’ve linked cute, shoppable charms at the bottom of this post!
my top three tips:
The lace clasps are ESSENTIAL. At first, I didn’t use them and my charms fell off their jump rings almost immediately once I started walking. I ordered these for take two, and the charms are much more secure and haven’t fallen off! They are sized perfectly to fit shoe laces, and they make it easier to remove your shoe charms or put them on a different pair.
Don’t be afraid to mix and match! Whether that means using a funky color palette, or just mixing up the types of charms you use — a variety of charms in different shapes and sizes will look best.
You don’t have to ONLY use charms. Think buttons, pins, a string of beads — unexpected embellishments make a statement. My favorite “charm” on my shoes is actually the looped safety pin I added my name to. Get creative and have fun!
